Fusion 774, a Political Support and Economic Advocacy Group, has asked on Amb. Tukur Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff and Nigerian Ambassador to the Benin Republic, to run for President in 2023.
This comes after the group promised to buy the retired Army General a #100 million APC Presidental form.
Mr Sediq Jikta, the National Coordinator of Fussion774, made the demand at a news conference on Friday in Abuja, stating that the call was borne out of the country’s security difficulties, and that the threats to the country’s national security had been of great worry.
Jikta added that during the 23 years of Nigeria’s democratic experiment, the country had faced several dangers to its survival, including civil disorder, which necessitated the use of experienced hands to manage the country’s affairs.
He stated that Nigeria is going through a difficult period and that it is critical to choose the correct leadership, one that has the capacity and ability to deliver and make the country operate.
Buratai’s accomplishments as a service chief in the battle against insurgency, according to the coordinator, demonstrate his outstanding qualities and qualification to run for the highest position in the land.
He revealed that the height of Boko-haram activity occurred during Amb. Buratai’s tenure as COAS, and that his effective leadership resulted in the recovery of overrun territories from the militants.
Jikta also based the group’s appeal on Buratai’s several accomplishments, including repositioning the Nigerian army for increased efficiency.
Experts believe that future security difficulties will not be external aggression since governments will have to deal with internal security, according to him.
“During his time as COAS, he brought an end to the country’s rampant spate of bombing, allowing Nigerians to conduct their everyday business in a tranquil environment.”
“Gen. Buratai also exhibited an open door policy of good governance, where private citizens with something to offer in terms of security are given a listening ear and action taken.
“With these achievements, we can see that Buratai is one courageous leader who could step in and bring the much-needed solution to the security challenge and the desired development for the country.
“We are using this opportunity to call on Buratai to come out and declare interest and contest for the office of the President of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“By this announcement, we are prepared to purchase the APC nomination form for him in the event that he declares his acceptance and readiness to contest,” he said.
Fusion774 was essentially the union of the political strength of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas into a virile, strong, and formidable political force, according to Jikta.
He claimed that the group was primarily driven by people from all walks of life working for the common benefit of the country.
While the group agreed with the rotational governance approach to give all regions a sense of belonging and participation in the country’s governance, the coordinator stated that merit should be emphasized in times of national disaster.
According to him, the committee agreed that rotational governance should be postponed until a candidate with the necessary capacity to respond to emerging national security concerns emerges.
