The Diocesan Diocese of Ikeja’s Bishop, Rt. Whoever God chooses to govern Nigeria in 2023, according to Rev. Stephen Adegbite, must have fear of the Lord and ensure that the populace has access to the necessities of life.
This occurred at the same time that the Church presented late Rear Admiral Ndubisi Kanu, an ex military leader of the states of Lagos and Imo, with a posthumous award in honor of his excellent service and dedication to the expansion and development of the diocese.
Speaking to the media at the 5th Diocesan Harvest and Anniversary Thanksgiving and Conferment of Awards Service, which had the theme , Harvest of God’s Faithfulness” and was held at the Methodist Cathedral of Peace and Excellence, Opebi, Ikeja, Adegbite also said Kanu had been like a father to him ever since he first met him and his wife in 1996.
He said: “We are not going to announce our support for any candidate or tell people how to vote; if we do so, it would be clear that we have no idea what we are doing. Any candidate for president of Nigeria would have the backing of the church, which is not involved in partisan politics and acts as a father to the country.
Nobody should use the church as a canvassing tool; only Heaven knows who is working for him. Whom God chooses to be our president in 2023 must have a fear of God and the ability to fulfill the people’s basic needs. We are requesting better governance; I recently moved from Germany; we can improve on what others are already doing. When I was in the Doha Airport, I questioned,
Are the people who built this airport from heaven?” Which airport do you recommend for us at Muritala Airport? Even for the new structure they claimed to have constructed is insignificant.
You should get out and observe what others have accomplished. They lack a second head. We have more money than they do. I implore our authorities to allow us to behave rationally once so that we can leave our children with something positive. Let’s make plans for our own kids and our kids’ kids. I implore you all to take action for this country.
Posterity will defend you, but if you keep travelling in the same direction and if precautions are not made, people may stone you. Being good didn’t cost us anything. Everything we require has been given to us by God. Why can’t you provide us with better service?
Individuals are now seeing you while you are campaigning for votes, but if you win they won’t see you again. Whomever emerges in 2023, we would meet you head-on, pursue you, talk about you in the media, and we won’t let you go.
If there are any promises you know you can’t keep, don’t make them. However, if you do make a promise, we will follow up with you to make sure you keep it because you are voice of the people. God will judge us if we don’t do good, he added.
My late friend Kanu was an extremely close friend. Despite the significant age gap, the man and his wife decided to accept me as a part of their children, and we have been together for the past 26 years as a result. We first met in 1996 at Tinubu Church, and nothing has changed since then.
I moved here, and they migrated with me. As a result, today, thanks to their support of the diocese, we are acknowledging what they have done for the Lord and what they will continue to do.
I personally believe that once you become a child of God, regardless of where you originate from, you become my brother or sister so we can travel together in the future. My connection with him has therefore been fantastic.
He characterized the dead as a straightforward, unassuming, dogged, and basic man.
Those are the qualities and characteristics I know I also possess, he remarked. By the grace of God, we will uphold his legacy of fighting for democracy and human rights as well as my own beliefs in fairness, fair play, and equity. These were the ideals he stood for during his time on earth.
Gladys Kanu deserves a lot of credit.
Gladys Kanu, the late Kanu’s wife, spoke for herself when she said: We’ve knew the priest for 26 years, and we’ve been members of the church. Therefore, I am quite pleased that everything in the diocese is doing smoothly. My spouse made significant contributions to NADECO and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo as well as this diocese. His accomplishments are thus honored by this award, and we are grateful for that. It’s an important recognition.
