“Withhold the salary,” ex-Pakistani cricket player Ramiz Raja said following his team’s T20 World Cup early elimination.

“Withhold the salary,” ex-Pakistani cricket player Ramiz Raja said following his team’s T20 World Cup early elimination.

Reducing the pay of Babar Azam and his colleagues for their subpar performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, according to former Pakistani cricket player Ramiz Raja, is wrong.

Raja’s remarks followed numerous speculations that suggested the Pakistan Cricket Board would demote Babar and his team for their appalling performance in the Twenty20 World Cup that is now taking place in the USA and the West Indies.

Raja was quoted by Cricket Pakistan as saying, “As I have said before, this is a knee-jerk reaction and you can not improve the standard by increasing or decreasing the pay of the cricketers.”

“I can’t comprehend this.” It’s simple: cricket players should be compensated. Raja stated, “PCB has a lot to offer the cricketers, and they have a limited career.

“Workforce members will quit their jobs if their salaries are reduced or withheld. He continued, “This is a very delicate topic where you are deducting or withholding someone’s pay as a form of punishment.

It should be mentioned that Pakistan was eliminated from the T20 World Cup after dropping two of their four group stage games.

Pakistan triumphed against Ireland and Canada in the tournament’s group stage but lost to co-host the United States and bitter foe India.

There are rumors that the PCB selection committee is undergoing rounds of adjustments as well. The formation of the present selection panel came about as a result of Pakistan’s elimination from the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Recently, Pakistan has appointed new coaches; former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie will lead the Test team, while former India coach Gary Kirsten will oversee the limited-overs team.

Kirsten, who had taken charge of the team during the T20 World Cup, blasted the players for their lack of cohesion after Pakistan’s elimination.
