Florence Otedola, also known as DJ Cuppy, a Nigerian disc jockey living in London, announced on Monday that she had to stop DJing for a while in order to focus on her studies at the University of Oxford.
Cuppy said in a series of videos on her Instagram account that she wouldn’t have been able to cope with the pressures of studying at Oxford if she hadn’t stopped DJing.
One of the reasons she suffered in school, she claims, was because she had to put her music career on hold.
“The saddest aspect of battling with academics in Oxford, I feel, is that I haven’t been able to do what I love,” she remarked.
“I enjoy listening to music. DJing is something I really enjoy doing. Working is something I enjoy, yet it’s been challenging. I’m incredibly proud of myself for persevering, and I can’t wait to get back to DJing and being Cuppy.
“A lot of individuals approach me for guidance for folks who don’t want to be boxed in and want to do things outside of their normal job.”
“Focus is my advise. You need to concentrate. I wouldn’t have been able to handle the strain and demands Oxford placed on me if I hadn’t stopped DJing.”
While admitting that she was in her final week of school, the entrepreneur, who had stated that she has not had any DJ gigs since 2022, stated that she was now available for work.
