Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, Director-General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), made the announcement on Friday at the relaunch and private screening of the repackaged drama series in Abuja.
The drama series will air on NTA every Sunday from 8 p.m. to 9.00 p.m., Africa Independent Television (AIT) every Wednesday from 9.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., and WAP Tv every Friday from 8 p.m. to 9.00 p.m., according to him.
The series is set in Oja, a fictional Yoruba hamlet, and revolves around the lives of the residents, from royalty to commoners, education, and so on, according to Ibn Mohammed.
He noted that the series attracted viewers and was addicting to many in those days, before it was taken off the air decades ago.
The series was brought back, according to the NTA head, to reenact the characters and to reintroduce the moral principles, national unity, and cohesion it taught back then.
He thanked Chief Wale Adenuga for donating his enormous experience and resources to the series’ creation, as well as Globacom for sponsoring it.
Ibn- Mohammed expressed grief that several of the original cast members of the show had passed away and were unable to see the series’ return.
He mentioned the late Chief Segun Olusola, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Ethiopia, who conceived the series while working for Western Nigeria Television in Ibadan.
According to the D-G, the new cast includes some of the series’ initial members, including Dejumo Lewis as Kabiyesi, Alison Ibrahim as Amebo, Dan Imodu as Dagbolu, and Dele Osawe as Teacher Fadile.
Popular musicians 9ice, Mr Latin, Funky Mallam, Jide Kosoko, Okele, Omo Ibadan, and Fathia Balogun were among the cast’s other notable members.
Adenuga also spoke at the ceremony, thanking the NTA CEO and family for reviving the show, stating that the TV network inspired them from script to screen.
Globacom’s representative, Mr Wale Adedeji, expressed his delight at being the sponsor of content that celebrates culture, inspires solidarity, and teaches moral values.
