Bret Michaels, lead vocalist of Poison, rejoined the band’s tour Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida, after being hospitalized two days earlier.
He shared a video message on Instagram hours before the concert, thanking fans for their best wishes: “It’s been a difficult couple of days for me. I’m not feeling my best on Sunday, but I’m going to keep rocking and bringing it.
” A Live Nation spokesman verified that Poison took the stage minutes before their scheduled performance at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on Thursday to announce that they would be unable to perform.
Michaels apologized on Instagram overnight, saying his stay was caused by a “unexpected medical problem.” He didn’t go into detail about what transpired.
“I was ecstatic to be on stage in Music City and perform,” the message said. “I’m working hard to go back to 100 percent as quickly as possible.” Poison is part of The Stadium Tour, which also features Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Michaels, 59, has had Type 1 diabetes since the age of six.
Before the trip, he told USA TODAY,”I’m a thankful man.” “After everything I’ve been through, to be on the good side of the dirt… I love being on the road. It’s my liberty. It’s beneficial to my spirit.
” He recounted maintaining his blood sugar on the road via diet and commitment to exercise, working out in his mobile gym between tour dates.
“I come from a partying family, but as a diabetic, I need to find more balance,” he told USA TODAY.
A&E will air “The Origins of Bret Michaels,” a multipart series based on the musician’s 2020 biography “Auto-Scrap-Ography Vol. 1,” in November.
