When Kanu’s legal team visited him on Thursday at the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility, he said. Kanu bemoaned the rising number of attacks and killings committed by security forces in the South East based on different “unjustified” charges.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed concern about the secret detention and arrest of his followers in different prisons and army bases around Nigeria.
The head of the separatist organisation was reported as stating, “Biafrans (Southeasterners) should appreciate at this juncture, that we are in a very serious situation demanding a total change in narrative,” in a statement by Kanu’s primary attorney, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
As he expressed “greatest sadness that Biafrans are being dumped daily inside the detention facilities of various security agencies with no traces of the places nor particulars of their detention,” Kanu reportedly strongly admonished his supporters and the people of the Southeast zone to jettison any order or declaration that might result in any form of violence.
He referred to the rate at which this huge assault on defenceless civilians is gaining notoriety as worrying.
“People should be guided by this hard fact,” Kanu said, “that every time the criminal gangs commit an offence on our land, those who bear the brunt are our innocent fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, who are usually killed, and others arrested without cause and dumped at the different formations of the security agencies across the country, where they are being detained at the establishment.”
According to Ejiofor, “Onyendu directed our people to proceed with the utmost caution because he is not under any delusion that those now sowing discord on our land in the ostensible name of the battle are the genuine enemies of our people.”
Kanu, according to Ejiofor, “further demonstrated the gravity of this factual situation we are facing, today the DSS served on our Law Firm a bundle of documents they filed in one of the matters we are prosecuting against them, and curiously they included a long list of Biafrans being detained at Wawa Barracks, Niger State, as those being detained at the pleasure of the state. This demonstrates how tense the situation has become.
In the message, it was observed that Kanu was forceful and further urged Southeasterners to quit aiding their common foes.
