Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC’s spokesperson, said in a statement on January 10 that the workers, who were employed by the state ministry of mines, died while performing their official duties at the scene.
The bodies of the killed officers and troops have reportedly been placed in the Kaduna mortuary of the Barau Diko Hospital.
The sentence said, in part:
“The Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, described the incident as a big loss to the corps, families of the slain victims and the nation.
“He commiserates with the families and friends of the deceased and prays that God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
The corps’ flag was reportedly flown at half-mast in memory of the killed officers, and a national prayer was held at the corps’ national headquarters in Abuja to prevent a repeat of the occurrence.
