After his home in Surrey, England, was broken into on the evening of December 3, Raheem Sterling, a star for England, was unable to play in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Senegal.

He will travel back to the team’s headquarters in Qatar before the Three Lions’ quarterfinal match against France on Saturday. He was forced to leave after burglars broke into his family’s home.

The Football Association stated on Thursday that “the Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend to a family problem but is now expected to rejoin the camp in Al Wakrah on Friday (9 December) ahead of the quarterfinal match with France.”

On December 3, just before 9 p.m., they called the police to report that many watches and jewellery pieces had been taken, according to a police statement.

On Monday, Surrey Police stated that it was looking into a claim of a break-in at a residence in Oxshott, Leatherhead, following the residents’ return from an overseas trip.

The statement said, “Officers attended the address later that night and returned to speak to the inhabitants this morning. At this time, it is unknown when the property was taken, and pinpointing this date is an important component of our inquiry. Investigations into the entire facts are still underway, and officers will review any relevant material, including any CCTV opportunity.
