According to sources in Spain, Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, who won the Euro 2024, has decided to join Arsenal before the transfer deadline.
According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, a verbal deal has been made for the Spanish midfield player to join the Premier League team.
Romano stated in a post on his X handle that an agreement has been reached for the player to move to the Emirate Stadium for €32 million plus €5 million in add-ons with favorable payment terms.
Merino “did not train on Wednesday with his current Real Sociedad teammates due to lower back pain, according to the official version, but everything indicates that he was already living his last hours as a player for the San Sebastian club, as the agreement for his transfer to Arsenal was being finalized,” according to reports in Spain. The talks between Arsenal and the Spanish club also ended “in an agreement.”
Jokin Aperribay, the president of Real Sociedad, was “seen taking a flight to London” late on Tuesday, and a €35 million agreement is now expected to close.
Many analysts and former players are picking Arsenal to win the championship, and their pursuit of Merino, a Spain international, could help them do so.
