Catholic Bishop requests update from FG over the Owo attack

Felix Ajakaye, the Catholic Bishop of the Ekiti Diocese, requested an update on the Owo church attack from the Federal Government and General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff. The prosecution of the alleged terrorists detained in connection with the June 5 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which resulted in the deaths of about 41 worshippers, has been demanded by the Catholic Bishop of the Ekiti Diocese.

Six months after the tragic tragedy, the priest called on the government of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) to constantly be “on top of actions, not only on top of situations” in a statement headlined “Nigeria Still Waiting.”

The Pentecost Sunday, June 5, 2022, gunmen opened fire on worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, according to the Catholic Bishop. At the conclusion of their unprovoked and horrific act, it was revealed that 41 people had died and numerous others had suffered significant injuries.

Subsequently, there were criticisms, condemnations, and promises on a national and international level. Visits were also made to the church’s grounds and the victims who were receiving care in various hospitals.

The Buhari-led administration expressed its condolences to the affected citizens as usual. The government promised to stay on top of the problem and find the offenders, as is customary for it. Practically speaking, we want the government to constantly be in charge of the circumstance, not just the situation itself.

Today, December 5, 2022, is the sixth month following the wicked attack; the deceased have been interred, but the departed’s family members and other well-wishers are still in a dejected state. Many of those hurt are traumatized, too.

General Irabor announced to the world more than three months ago that suspects in the attack had been detained. “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and wailing bitterly: It is Rachel weeping for her children, unwilling to be consoled because they are no longer there.” (See Matthew 2:18.) General Irabor, Nigeria, continues to wait.

The cleric continues, more than ever, those who have been held since the General informed Nigerians and the rest of the world that they had been detained ought to be prosecuted right now. Additionally, General Irabor needs to provide an update on the progress of the Owo massacre.
