Dr. Felix Adeyemi, an optometrist in Benin, has urged adults to cease wearing contact lenses to avoid conjunctivitis.
According to the eye doctor, poor contact lens use can lead to conjunctivitis and other eye problems.
Adeyemi delivered the advise in a Thursday interview with the Nigerian News Agency in Benin.
Pink eye is an inflammation or infection of the outer membrane of the eyeball and the inner eyelids, commonly known as conjunctivitis.
It is a medical disorder in which the conjunctiva, which covers the white area of the eyeball, is irritated or inflamed.
It can be caused by an allergic reaction, a bacterial infection, or a viral infection.
According to Adeyemi, the virus is very contagious and spreads through contact with infected people’s eye fluids.
“Lenses are susceptible to movement, dryness, and other issues.
“When you wear contact lenses, your eyes are more susceptible to infection.”
“Contact lens wearers have an increased risk of bacterial infection.
“Prolonged wear, build-up, bacteria, poor treatment, and sleeping with contacts on can all cause infections,” Adeyemi warned.
Contact lenses, he claims, are one of the most popular ways to correct vision, but they have a number of drawbacks.
Redness, irritation, and tearing of the eyes are among the signs of conjunctivitis, according to him.
He said, “It can also cause discharge or crusting around the eyes.”
He claimed that using contact lenses while sleeping or applying them incorrectly can cause corneal scratches or tears.
“A build-up of dust or particles under the lens can cause scratches on the eye’s surface,” Adeyemi explained.
