Hope Uzodiinma, the governor of Imo State, said on Wednesday that the state was ready to collaborate on gas exploration with the federal government and other investors.
Uzodimma also stated that the sector would boost young employment and the state’s economic growth.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof Placid Njoku, made the remarks at a three-day stakeholder sensitization conference hosted by the Gas Monitoring Committee of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.
He stated that the state was poised to tap into its potential for expansion, noting that the state contains the world’s greatest natural gas deposits.
Uzodimma reaffirms his commitment to leveraging resources in order to build a strong economic base for the state and provide opportunities for youths.
“Imo wishes to work with the Federal Government and others interested in gas,” he stated, “since it will improve young employment and the State’s economic growth.” The state government is concerned about efficient gas consumption.”
The Chairman of the Gas Monitoring Committee, Patrick Mgbebu, echoed Uzodimma’s data on gas deposits in the state, noting that Nigeria had more gas deposits than oil.
He emphasized that the state, as one of the largest producers of the product, has the capacity to host the federation’s major gas investments.
“In the coming decade, Nigeria has set an ambitious goal of reinventing its natural gas industry, seeking to exploit its massive gas resources to power its fast-growing economy while also benefiting from a rising export market.”
“Foreign finance, favourable policies, and government-industry cooperation will be required for it to flourish.” It is our aim that Imo State will provide a conducive environment for potential investors, allowing gas to fully realize its inherent potential as a catalyst for economic diversification.” He gave an explanation.
