‘Influence of foreign interest…,’ T20 World Cup 2024 Former PAK president on Kirsten’s indignation about the team

In response to reports of remarks made by head coach, former Pakistan president Arif Alvi had a rather unusual but well-intentioned response. Pakistan cricket is once again going through a turbulent period following their early elimination from the ongoing T20 World Cup. The team’s lack of unity, according to recently appointed coach Gary Kirsten, has resulted in a subpar performance in the competition.

“There is a simple fix for this grave accusation for us in Pakistan. This is an assault on Pakistan’s integrity and unity. We know that he is directly influenced by foreign interests that are opposed to our philosophy, according to information from reliable sources (cipher) that cannot be disclosed. On the tongue-in-cheek social networking platform X, Alvi wrote, “The patron of the PCB has ordered immediate action that includes registration of FIRs in all the cricket playing centers of Pakistan and his name is put on the ECL.”

“For Gary! Fear not—the above is merely a pun. Try your hardest to save our struggling cricket squad,” he continued.

The team’s terrible performance has caused a rift among Pakistani cricket. The team’s administration and organizational structure underwent a number of adjustments earlier in the year following Pakistan’s elimination from the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final.

In Pakistani cricket, the past several months have been nothing short of dramatic, with Babar Azam being removed from captaincy and then restored in the white-ball format in time for the T20 World Cup.

Coach Kirsten is not amused by Babar, top pacer Shaheen Afridi, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan’s game of musical chairs for captaincy.
