The All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senate’s chief whip, has warned Nigerians against criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly due to the country’s high rate of unemployment.
He asserted that several candidates are not adequately nurtured, and he emphasized that many lecturers in higher institutions don’t really know what they are teaching, which has significantly contributed to the nation creating graduates that are fruitless.
Addressing yesterday in Abuja at the launch of TerraSkills, an Abuja-based tech company’s Graduate Skills Training (GST) program, Kalu stated, “We must not criticize President Muhammadu Buhari or the national assembly over high rate of poverty in the country which is producing insecurity. I have experience as a governor, so I am knowledgeable.
“The majority of our students lack the necessary training for the positions. There is uncertainty as a result. Buhari and the national assembly are not entirely to blame. It’s because most people aren’t prepared for leadership in the right way.
Attending university is insufficient because the majority of these professors are ignorant of the material they are instructing you in. I started as an entrepreneurial before I entered politics, and I continue to serve as the main advisor for my firms, which have over 13,000 employees, so I understand what I’m talking about.
The former governor of Abia State, Kalu, encouraged those who had completed the TerraSkills graduate skills training to put their newfound skills to good use. He pointed out that most employees in many businesses lack adequate training, adding that “training is the key” and “No human being is perfect.” Both the public and private sectors fall short of perfection. Take the excellent and discard the bad, that is what you should do.
“No information is wasted. I still want to go out of my cozy workplace and go research at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS). Studies are vital, so I won’t mind studying alongside you here at TerraSkills, Kalu said, adding that while the most of his factories are in Lagos, he now plans to build a 150,000 tons rice mill in his village.
The founder of TerraSkills and Senate Deputy Chief Whip Senator Sabi Abdullahi, APC, Niger North, revealed in his remarks that it took 3 years of research to develop the graduate skills training program.
“This is not about producing money, but about growing human capital,” Senator Sabi Abdullahi stated. Many students lack the skills. I’ve informed the employees that anyone who cannot be trained should have their money refunded after 2 weeks since they don’t belong here.
“The main goal is to raise corporate productivity in Nigeria. We also wish to assist in lowering the number of unemployed graduates in the nation. We’ll keep giving grads the tools they need to be productive in the workplace.
Aminu Mohammed, a member of the Director General (DG) of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), said in his comments that they would keep making Nigerian young productive and added that TarraSkills was repeating what they were doing at the ITF.
