The management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja has denied reports that a man was captured impersonating a nurse at the hospital.
A viral video circulating on social media earlier on Wednesday showed a dark-complexioned man being detained after reportedly attempting to abduct a newborn from a Lagos hospital.
The man was seen in the video donning a nurse’s uniform while being escorted and questioned by hospital and police officials.
The man, who claimed to be from the Lagos neighborhood of Fadeyi, denied coming to the hospital to abduct babies.
Before being captured, the man obtained entry to the nurses’ changing room at the Randle General Hospital in Lagos and changed into one of the nurses’ outfits.
Meanwhile, in response to a Facebook post by one Sefinatu Umaru stating that the video of a guy impersonating a nurse occurred in Ayinke House, LASUTH, the hospital’s management stated that the incident did not place there.
“We wish to affirm that the occurrence in the video did not happen in Ayinke House in LASUTH but at Randle General Hospital, Surulere,” the management wrote on its Instagram page @lasuthikeja. The hospital’s Medical Director has already made a statement to that effect.
“We advise social media users to investigate the source of their news before sharing them. Unverified stories like this have the potential to instill unwarranted fear and panic in the general public.
“As a result, the aforementioned clarification is offered to debunk the false information attributed to LASUTH by Safinatu Umaru.”
