Taylor Swift surpassed the late Whitney Houston to become the most honored female artist in the history of the American Music Awards on Tuesday. However, there are more.
1. Micheal Jackson
Over the years, the late King of Pop told several rivals to “Beat It,” winning 24 AMAs in the process. He won several important awards in the pop and soul/R&B categories between 1980 and his passing in 2009, including the Award of Achievement (1989) and Artist of the Century (2002).
2. Alabama
The country group, known for its singles “Mountain Music” and “Song of the South,” raked up a remarkable 23 Grammys between 1983 and 2003, taking home Best Country Group almost every year for two decades.
3. Taylor Swift
The diva who won Best Country Female for the first time in 2008 and went on to win the honor for the next 5 years has no ill will toward the AMAs. The vocalist of “Shake It Off” and “Look What You Made Me Do” was given the prestigious Dick Clark Award for Excellence in 2014. The celebrity added four more awards to her collection during the gala this year, including Tour of the Year and Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist. She also received her fourth win for Artist of the Year, bringing her total to 23 and makes her the female artist with the most AMA victories. Alabama and she are tied for second place overall.
4. Whitney Houston
Houston may have sung “I Have Nothing,” but she has 21 AMA awards to her credit. The “I Will Always Love You” singer dominated the annual program from 1986 through 1994, winning numerous awards in the pop and soul/R&B categories. She won the International Artist Award in 2009, her final AMA before passing away in 2012.

From 1978 to 1985, betting on the country singer to win an AMA was a sure thing if you were a gambler. The “Lady” singer was a prominent participant at the ceremony at that time, taking home 16 trophies in total and six Best Album victories (in both the country and pop/rock categories).

Just at American Music Awards, he has buddies. In addition to being crowned Artist of the Decade in 2000, the well-liked country singer has received 17 accolades since 1991.
7. Rihanna
The singer of “Umbrella,” who received the Icon Award in 2013, has won 13 AMAs overall since 2007. She was selected Favorite Female Artist Soul/R&B at the gala this year, an honor she has already won six times.
8. Carrie Underwood
The singer of “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel” won her first AMA for Breakthrough Artist the year after winning American Idol, and she has won awards pretty much every year since. She shares ninth place with Rihanna with 13 victories, having been named The best Country Female a total number of 6 times.
9. Willie Nelson
Nelson was consistently remembered by the AMAs between 1977 and 1989, collecting a total of 12 awards, including the Award of Appreciation (1986) and the Award of Merit (Award of Merit).
10. Mariah Carey and Randy Travis
The top 10 is completed by pop and country artists, who each have 10 AMAs. The vocalist of “Dreamlover” received the Award of Achievement in 2000 and 2008, whereas Travis collected all of his accolades during the years of 1988 and 1990.
